Kedarnath yatra is not just about visiting the temple; it’s about experiencing the journey. For many travellers, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. So we cover every place along the route to Kedarnath, including:
The primary sightseeing in our package and the most significant river confluence among the Panch Prayag in Uttarakhand, Devprayag Sangam. The place where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers meet to form the Ganga River. You can explore the site and take pictures of the merging rivers. This is the first sightseeing we are going to cover after leaving Haridwar.
The second prominent site is the Dhari Devi Temple, standing in the middle of the Alaknanda River. The temple is dedicated to the Dhari devi. The upper half of Dhari devi is being worshipped here, and the lower half is enshrined at the Kalimath temple. We stop here for around 30 mins, where you can seek darshan and enjoy the view of the Alaknanda River. This is the second sightseeing we are going to cover on the day of our travel from Haridwar to Musafir Resort at Guptkashi.
Another prayag along the route is the Rudraprayag Sangam, the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. We take a 15-minute break here to take pictures and have tea. This is the third and last sightseeing we are covering on the day of our visit to Musafir Resort, Guptkashi.
Before embarking on the Kedarnath trek, we go to Gaurikund, explore the Gauri Devi Temple, and the Gauri Kund natural hot spring. This is the very first place we are covering on the day of our trek to Kedarnath.
After the Kedarnath darshan, we visit this giant rock, named Bhim Shila, in Kedarnath, just behind the temple. It is the miraculous rock, which is believed to be the saviour of Kedarnath Temple during the flood of 2013.
A sacred site, around 500 meters above the main Kedarnath temple, is believed to protect the shrine and Kedar Valley from harsh climate. After the darshan at Kedarnath, we visit here, as it is believed that the Kedarnath yatra remains incomplete without visiting Bhairavnath, located in Kedarnath.
A small holy kund where devotees chant “Om” or “Om Namah Shivaye”, and bubbles pop up from the bottom of the pond. We also visit this mysterious pond on the day of our visit to the Kedarnath temple, to witness its magic.
A memorial site dedicated to Adi Shankaracharya, who attained Maha Samadhi near the temple after establishing the temple. We are also going to visit here during a visit to Kedarnath Dham.
In addition to the above places mentioned, you can also add some more places to your itinerary if you are planning a customised tour package for the Kedarnath temple from Chennai. Here is a list of some more beautiful places which can be added to this package to make it even more fulfilling.
One of the natural wonders and a historically important temple of Uttarakhand is the Triyuginarayan temple, which is located at just 18 Kms from Sonprayag. It is well known as the marriage sport of lord Shiva and Maa Parvati.
Love adventure, then Vasuki Tal is a perfect short hike from Kedarnath. It gives you a chance to explore deep inside the Himalaya and witness the marvellous view of Chaukhambha peak. It got its name from the Vasuki Nag, as its shape resembles the snake.
One of the panch kedar, Madhyamaheshwar temple, is a place where the neval of lord Shiva is being worshipped as the Shivlinga.
Located at just 2 Kms from the Kedarnath temple, Chorabari Lake is the lake which cause devastration in the Kedarnath region in 2013. If you wish to have a bird’s-eye view of the Kedarnath valley, then this is going to be a wonderful trek.
The holy place where lord shiva came to hide himself. Yes, this is where our resort is located, and it is well known for the Ardhanareshwar temple, where Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati are worshipped in a single idol.
Love trekking, and wish to experience the 360-degree view from Chandrashila peak with blessings at the world’s highest Shiva temple. Then the Chopta Tungnath trek is just for you. It is a short trek of just 3.5 km from Chopta to the Tungnath temple. For Chandrashila, another 1 Kms trek is required.
One of the few temples of Kartik swami temple is located in Malhi village in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. A lesser-known but wonderful place, mostly famous for its beautiful view. If you have some spare time, then the Kartik swami temple is a must-visit place with the Kedarnath yatra.
A beautiful temple located at just 35 Kms from Almora in the Kumaon Himalaya, the Jageshwar Dham temple is another most famous location to explore. It is also known as the biggest group of temples, located in the same compound.
A temple which is considered to be more powerful than any court in India. Yes, it’s the Chitai Golu Devta temple where devotees offer stamp paper with their grievances on it. It is believed that if you are not getting justice in any Indian court, then you should offer a stamp paper, and the deity will give you justice.
A winter wonderland and favourite destination for ski lovers, Auli is one of the most beautiful places. Not only in winter, but it is also mostly populated due to its beautiful view. If you love to spend time in nature, then Auli could be the best place for this.
Last but not least, one of the most famous temples of this region is the Narshimha temple in Joshimath. It is believed that the hand of lord Narshimha is thinning day by day. The day it will collapse, the road to the Badrinath temple will close forever, and devotees will have to visit Bhavishya Badri. It is located en route to the Badrinath temple and can be covered easily without any extra day in hand.
Many pilgrims are not comfortable travelling in a group and sharing their space with strangers. If you are one of them, we do provide a private tour package option. In this package, you can get everything customised as per your convenience.

The opening and closing dates of Kedarnath are very auspicious decisions that are made by the temple committee, as Kedarnath is a seasonal site open for a few months only. Below are the opening and closing dates of Shri Kedarnath Temple for 2026.
Choosing the right time to visit Kedarnath is important, especially for devotees travelling from far cities, like Chennai, for safe travel. Chennai has a tropical climate, characterised by wet, dry, and high humidity year-round.
So the best time to visit Kedarnath from Chennai is from May to June (Summer season) for a pleasurable experience, as pleasant weather and accessible trails make the trek manageable. September to October (post-monsoon) is another good time, offering clear views with fewer crowds, ideal for a peaceful darshan experience.
Avoid visiting during the monsoon season, as it experiences heavy rain, landslides, and slippery trails, making travel risky. During the winter months (from November to March/April), the temple remains closed due to heavy snowfall.
Both options are better in their own ways, but it depends on the various factors and the type of experience you are seeking:
| Factor | Train Travel | Flight Travel |
| Travel Time | Longer journey, usually 30–40 hours to reach Uttarakhand | Reaches Delhi or Dehradun within a few hours |
| Cost | More affordable for most travellers | Generally costs more, especially during peak season |
| Comfort | Suitable for those who enjoy a relaxed journey | Ideal for travellers looking to save time |
| Luggage | Allows carrying more luggage conveniently | Baggage restrictions may apply |
| Group Travel | Easy for families and groups to stay together | Faster, but group members may have separate bookings |
| Experience | Offers scenic views and a traditional travel experience | Provides a quick and convenient journey |
