Sightseeing Covered In The Tungnath Trek Package

Haridwar

The primary sightseeing is Haridwar, which serves as the gateway to the Himalayan pilgrimages. Here we will enjoy the famous Ganga Aarti and take a holy bath at Har Ki Pauri Ghat.

Devprayag

The second sightseeing en route to Tungnath is Devprayag Sangam, located at a distance of around 95 km away from Haridwar. It is the first stop of your journey, where we halt for 15 minutes to capture the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers.

Dhari Devi Temple

The next stop is an ancient temple of Maa Dhari Devi (an incarnation of Goddess Kali) located on the banks of the Alaknanda River, around 45 km away from Devprayag; it takes around 1-2 hours to reach. We will stay here for 30 to 40 minutes to get darshan and explore the site.

Rudraprayag

Another site we will cover is Rudraprayag Sangam, one of the Panch Prayag, famous for its scenic confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. We take a short 15-minute tea break here to witness the confluence and scenic surroundings.

Chopta Valley

One of the main attractions en route to Tungnath is the Chopta Bugyal, famous as the Mini Switzerland of India. It serves as the base camp for the trek, located 3.5 km from the temple.

Tungnath Temple

Located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 12073 feet above sea level, Tungnath Temple is one of the highest shrines of Lord Shiva and the Panch Kedar Temples. It is the main attraction we will cover in our package. 

Chandrashila peak

A final summit point of the Chopta trek journey, famous for its great views of Mt. Trishul, Nanda Devi, and Chaukhamba peaks. After the Tungnath darshan, we will also visit this site by trekking 1.5 km.

Deoria tal

Deoria tal is a crystal alpine lake located near Chopta Village, around 20-22 km away. After completing all the sites, we will visit this pristine lake by trekking around 2.5 to 3 km from Sari village. We cover this destination on the last day of our package trip.

Best time to Visit Chopta-Tungnath

The best time to visit the Chopta Tungnath Chandrashilla trek is throughout the year except July and August for a pleasant experience, clear trails, and great visibility.

Note: You can also visit during winter from December to March, as it is a winter trek, but the Tungnath Temple remains closed during this time. However, winter is ideal for snow lovers and trekkers.

Difficulty Level of Chopta Tungnath Trek

The Tungnath Temple trek from Chopta is an easy trek. It covers around 3.5 km one way, starting at an elevation of 8,970 feet at Chopta and reaching up to 12,073 feet at Tungnath. 

It is best suited for both beginners and experienced trekkers as well as families, due to well-paved trails. Usually takes around 3 hours; it depends on pace and fitness level. 

There is one optional stretch of about 1.5 km farther up to the Chandrashilla summit that involves steep climbs but offers great views of the Himalayan panorama. 

However, the return journey is quicker and quite easy. But stay hydrated and dress in layers to prevent altitude sickness. Also, take short breaks along the trek to reduce fatigue.

Day 0: Delhi to Devprayag

  • Departure time: 10:00 PM

On day 0, a Tempo Traveller will pick you up at 10:00 PM from Manchala Mushafir Rohini Office. The journey will take around 7-8 hours by road.  We advise travellers to arrive at the pickup location 30 minutes before departure.

Our guide will meet you in Delhi at the beginning of the trip. He will brief you on the whole journey, especially the trek. He will also suggest how you should trek, what strategies to use, and which common mistakes to avoid to ensure our safety.

Take your seats in the traveller as it is totally on first come first basis and get ready for a thrilling journey.

Day 1: Devprayag to Chopta

  • Drive distance: 90 km

  • Sightseeing: Devprayag, Dhari Devi temple, Rudraprayag, & Chopta

  We will reach Devprayag around 7:00 AM on Day 1. Devprayag Sangam, the most famous among the Panch Prayag, is a divine place where two holy rivers, Alaknanda and Bhagirathi, meet. This is the same place where the holy river Ganga takes her name. We will stay here for 2 hours for a freshen up, holy dip in the Ganga, and breakfast.   

Our next sightseeing is the Dhari Devi temple, around 75.2 km from Devprayag. The temple is dedicated to Maa Dhari Devi (an incarnation of Goddess Kali); we halt here for 30 minutes to offer prayers to the deity and have tea or a perk.  

After that, we will take a short tea break at Rudraprayag Sangam, around 19 km away, taking around 45 minutes. Here, we take a small 15-minute break for tea and witness the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers.   

We will reach Chopta around 3:00 PM. Here, we will provide you with a stay in the Swiss camp. Rest there for some time, and get fresh up. Then you can explore Chopta Valley by walking through pristine alpine meadows and serene surroundings.  

Note: If you want to stay in a cottage or resort in Chopta instead of a camp, then you can customise it at an additional cost.   You will get dinner at your camp. Have dinner while enjoying a bonfire, music, starry skies, and an enjoyable experience. After dinner, get a good night's sleep, as tomorrow you are heading on the trek to experience the moment you have been calling for.

Day 2: Chopta to Tungnath-Chandrashila & Trek back to Sari village

  • Trek: 5 km (3.5 km + 1.5 km) one way
  • Sightseeing: Tungnath, Chandrashila peak
  • Meals: Breakfast & Dinner
  • Stay: Swiss Camp in Chopta

The next morning, we will have breakfast at the camp and will start our trek by 7:00 AM.

After completing the 3.5 km trek from Chopta to Tungnath, you will reach the highest Shiva temple and one of the Panch Kedar temples.

Next, we will go for a scenic stretch to Chandrashila, which requires a 1.5 km trek from the temple. It is comparatively more difficult than the Tungnath trek.  

At the Chandrashila summit, you will get to enjoy 360-degree views of the massive Trishul and Chaukhamba peaks.   

After soaking in the divine beauty of this region, trek back to Chopta and get into your camp. 

In the evening, if the weather permits, we will have a bonfire and light music. After having dinner, relax in your camp.

Note:- You can opt for a non-veg dinner at an additional cost of 200 per person.

Day 3: Chopta to Sari Village and Trek to Deoriatal and Return to Delhi

  • Drive Distance: 30 km + 450 Kms
  • Duration: 7-8 hours
  • Trek distance: 2.5 to 3 km
  • Trek time: 1 to 1.5 hrs
  • Sightseeing: Deoria Tal, Haridwar Ganga Aarti

After breakfast at our camping site, we will drive to Sari village, the base camp of the Deoriatal trek. Then we will start our trek to the most beautiful and untouched trekking destination, Deoria Tal (a picturesque lake at an elevation of around 2,438 meters).   

We will start the trek early in the morning, around 7:30 AM, from Sari Village to complete a 2 km trek. The trek is easy to reach due to a well-defined path, and the views along the trek route are mesmerising.  

After reaching Deoria Lake, spend some time here and capture the beautiful moments of the surroundings, such as stunning lake reflections and alpine flora and fauna, then trek down to Sari village.  

Now, it's time for a Himalayan farewell. We will begin your return journey to Haridwar.   You will be passing through scenic mountain roads and get a chance to experience one last glimpse of snow-capped peaks, lush deep valleys, and rhododendron forests. It is filled with moments of pause and reflection on your trekking journey. If time permits, we will try to attend the Ganga Aarti at Harki Pauri before moving ahead.

For the return journey, our driver will take a short lunch, tea break, and dinner at local eateries en route, allowing you to relax at your own cost.  

Day 4:- Reach Delhi

We will reach New Delhi early in the morning by 3-4 AM. Your drop will be at ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Here, your trip will end with some beautiful memories and a hope to meet you again, on some other trip with some new strangers.
